One-time NFL Athlete Antonio Brown Files Innocent Plea in Attempted Murder Charges

Ex- NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is returning to Miami to face an attempted murder accusation stemming from a gunfire that happened in May, as his lawyer submitting a innocent declaration on his behalf.

Correctional logs in Essex County, New Jersey, show that Brown was freed on Tuesday early for his transfer to the state of Florida. Brown, one of the most popular athletes in the National Football League, had relinquished transfer to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was held after being arrested in the city of Dubai.

Brown’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, mentioned in an communication that he has already filed a formal innocent declaration to the attempted murder charge. Brown could be in a Miami hearing as soon as Wednesday early for a release proceeding, Eiglarsh added.

Based on his arrest order, Brown is alleged of seizing a pistol from a protection employee after a public figure match bout in May and shooting a couple of bullets at a man he had clashed with before. The claimed target, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, stated to police that one of the bullets grazed his throat.

Eiglarsh asserted that Brown was merely protecting himself from Nantambu.

“The steps he was forced to take were exclusively in defense against the alleged victim’s aggressive actions. Brown was attacked that evening and responded within his rightful entitlement to safeguard himself,” Eiglarsh said.

Brown was not promptly arrested because initially police did not consider Nantambu as a target. It only subsequently in May that Nantambu provided a full account about the incident to officers and identified Brown as the gunman, the affidavit says.

Based on his online content, Brown had been living in Dubai for several weeks. In a post after the incident, Brown said he was protecting himself because he was “attacked by numerous persons who attempted to take my possessions and bring personal damage to me.”

A level two murder attempt charge in Florida imposes a highest fifteen-year incarceration sentence and up to a ten thousand dollar penalty in the case of a finding.

Brown has encountered numerous legal challenges over the years. He earlier had been accused of battery of a delivery driver, multiple family violence allegations, neglect to pay parental support and further events.

In a 2021 season game with Tampa Bay against the Jets, Brown took off his shirt, equipment and handwear and ran off the stadium, leading to his dismissal by the franchise and virtually concluding his NFL career.

Brown, who completed twelve years in the National Football League, was an All-Pro receiver who passed the bulk of his career with Pittsburgh. Throughout his career, Brown had nine hundred twenty-eight receptions for over 12,291 yards, the 28th greatest of history. He was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection.
