Indian Women's Team Overcome Bug Plague to Cruise to Frosty Victory Over Pakistan in Women's World Cup

Pace bowler Goud and spin specialist Deepti Sharma claimed three wickets each as the Indian side defeated Pakistan by a substantial margin in their Women’s World Cup match, which began similar to recent fixtures between the countries men’s teams with no handshake from the captains and then featured a disputed run-out of a Pakistan opener.

The Indian captain, Kaur, did not shake hands with Sana during the toss and the squads walked off without post-match pleasantries after the contest amid political tensions between the two neighboring nations.

The captains at the recent men’s Asia Cup in the UAE also did not shake hands at games between the two rivals. Indian authorities have alleged their neighbor of having involvement in attacks on tourists that killed dozens.

Match Summary

India lost the toss, India were dismissed for 247 in their allotted overs. Their openers, Pratika Rawal and the star batter Smriti Mandhana, put on 48 runs for the first wicket before Sana had Mandhana lbw for a 23 off 32. She made 31 runs before she was bowled by the left-arm spinner Iqbal. The captain scored 19 before she was caught behind off Baig.

Harleen Deol was the top scorer for India with 46 runs and Richa Ghosh made a quick-fire 35 not out to boost their team to a respectable score.

Rodrigues (32), Sharma (25) and Sneh Rana (20) all made useful runs, while Baig took four for 69 for the opposition and Iqbal and Sana had two wickets apiece. The match was halted for 15 minutes because insects were bothering the players.

Pakistan’s Innings

The Pakistani team were bowled out for 159 in 43 overs. Sole fifty of the match in the venue came from Amin, who made 81.

Pakistan’s first wicket was taken in a confusing manner when the opener Ali was adjudged run out. Ali had grounded her bat after returning to her crease, having stepped out to play a shot. Her bat was then lifted momentarily when an India throw hit the stumps. The captain argued with the official that the batter was not running but the decision stood.

Amin’s 106-ball innings included a maximum and nine fours. Goud took three wickets for 20 runs and Sharma finished with 3/45.
