Ibrox side sack Martin after 17 games.

After just 17 games in charge, Russell Martin has been dismissed as Rangers manager, as the club declared "even though rebuilding takes time, performances fell short of targets".

His last match in charge ended with a 1-1 stalemate against Falkirk on Sunday, after which he required a police escort to leave the stadium after fans tried to block the team bus from exiting.

Increasing scrutiny had been directed at Martin from Rangers fans amid a poor start to the season to the term.

It took Rangers until late September to record their maiden league win, while the team suffered an embarrassing 9-1 total setback against Club Brugge in European playoff matches in August.

The announcement stressed that rebuilding processes demand time, yet outcomes need to satisfy requirements.
