Hodgkinson Concludes Season with Winning Display at Athlos Meet in NYC

Hodgkinson recorded her personal best of 1:54.61 the previous season in the British capital.

The Olympic champion concluded her two-lap campaign with a triumph at the women-only Athlos meet in New York on Friday evening.

{The current Olympic champion, who earned third place at the global championships last month, dominated an outstanding win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a year impacted by a hamstring injury.

Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Hunter Bell took the runner-up spot once more in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) secured third place.

"I've barely raced this season so it was likely less of a struggle for me to go out there and want to give it something," stated the 23-year-old.

"The environment out there is crazy so it was really, really fun."

The women-only event packed Icahn Stadium in its second year, bringing a festive vibe to traditional track, with musical performances and Tiffany & Co. crowns replacing standard medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena W., who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was on hand to award the winners with their crowns.

Last year's winners took home $60,000 (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.

The event also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.

The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, secured the sprint double.
